On January 19th, 2023 the South El Monte Eagles varsity girls soccer team was scheduled to face off against the Rosemead Panthers. The Lady Eagles came into this game after a loss against Marshall the previous week, and a loss against Rosemead from their first match up, the Lady Eagles were looking to settle the score and obtain a win against the Rosemead Panthers.

The Eagles came out strong and aggressive starting with the ball and pushing down towards the Panthers side of the field, which is where they stayed most of the first half keeping possession of the ball. Rosemead would gain possession of the ball every now and then due to little mistakes the Eagles would commit, but every offensive attack Rosemead would make would ultimately end up pointless as they could not score. Our Lady Eagles did not have any luck scoring the first half either and the half ended with the score being 0-0.

The second half of the match was not much different with both teams having multiple opportunities to score, but all ending up futile due to either good goalkeeping or good defense by the defensive players. The Lady Eagles played a more defensive game the second half not letting Rosemead put any points on the board.

The game ended with the score being 0-0 and this is what some of the Lady Eagles had to say, “We had many opportunities to make into the goal . We had possession of the ball in most parts, so I definitely think we could’ve done better.” “Although, the outcome wasn’t in our favor I’m still grateful for my team for doing their best.” said senior Johana Gomez.
