Now that all fall sports have ended for 2022, winter sports are in full swing. South El Monte’s girls basketball team is now practicing and putting in that work for this upcoming season. All players and coaches are excited for this new upcoming season.

The South El Monte high school girls basketball coach has some things to say for this season.  I asked what is going to be different this year for the team and Jay Gauthier Sr. said “We are not as tall as most of our past teams, so the uptempo game will be a key for us.” Another question asked was his prediction for this year and he answered, “I believe that we will be quite competitive, especially in our league and  we have a good chance to compete with any of our league teams.  Obviously a league title is the goal and that is what we will be aiming for.”When asked what was going to be his most exciting part for the season, he answered with, “I’m very excited about this season.  We have a young team overall, but they are very athletic and have a great enthusiasm for the game.”

I was able to reach out to some of the returning basketball players. Returning junior April Ramos had some things to say. When asked about her feelings toward this upcoming season, she stated, “My feelings towards this upcoming season would be excited and a bit nervous but always ready to learn new things everyday.”  She says that she would like to improve on “getting more rebounds and communication. I’ll also be driving more to the basket and shooting when I have the open shot to help my team. Getting open is also a big key on the court !” When asked what April is most excited for she replied, “I’m most excited about becoming a better player than I was last year. I also am excited for team bonding and the games. “.

This season is now in session and the coach is ready to make great new changes to this year’s team. Not only is the coach going to make changes, but the players have been putting in that work.
