On February 7th, the boy’s basketball team hosted Arroyo High School. It was their last league game of the season and was the boys’ senior night. Typically, senior night is the last guaranteed home game of the season, but with the successful season the team has had, they will look forward to the CIF playoffs.

The gym was packed with students wearing their class colors for the night rally and the atmosphere for the boys was great as they fed off the energy the entire night. The start of the game was close with Arroyo up 15-14 at the end of the 1st quarter. It was a different story in the 2nd quarter as the Eagles scored 23 points while Arroyo only scored 9.

Leading 37-24 at the half, the boys didn’t look back outscoring the Knights in both the 3rd and 4th quarters. With the game ending in a blowout 72-48 victory, the boys were able to soak in the well-deserved celebration and cutting of the net that each player was able to take part in.

Moments like these are what student-athletes play for, and some of their players shared their thoughts of their senior experiences. Robert Felix stated, “This season has meant so much to me because I wanted to give my everything. Especially Senior Night, that was a surreal moment, cutting the net while the crowd chanted MVP is a moment I’ll never forget.”

Every senior was overtaken by the importance of Senior Night, as Adrian Diosdado said, “It was really special, playing my last home game of league was really emotional for me.” The emotion was apparent in all of the players, not just seniors, because they could sense the importance of the game. Senior Kevin Ramirez shared, “Playing for the people who came to support me and winning the league championship in our last game was special.”

With each game taking them closer to the end of the season, every senior all said they tried making the most of everything. Angel Hernandez put it best when he said, “My senior experience was obviously different from past years, everything meant so much more knowing it would be my last time doing it. These memories will be unforgettable.”

After their victory against Arroyo and earning the title of Undefeated Mission Valley League Champions, the Eagles looked toward the CIF playoffs where they had a first round bye. Unfortunately, the boys season ended shorter than expected in the second round against Eastside High School. The boys still had a very successful and memorable season that gives everyone on the team something to be proud of and remember.
