Senior Alexis Jacobo isn’t just known for his skills on the volleyball court—he’s also respected for his hard work, leadership, and positive attitude. Recommended by Coach Mrs. Puckett, Alexis has earned the reputation of being both a strong player and an even stronger teammate.
“Being recognized by my coach makes me feel prideful of my physical capabilities,” Alexis said. “It reassures me that my effort is not going unnoticed.”
Alexis, who also goes by “Lexis,” has been an important part of the boys’ volleyball team. He puts in the work at every practice, always pushing himself to improve. “I put lots of effort into being the best for my team,” he said. “During practices I work to the fullest and try my hardest to perfect my game.”
One of the highlights of this season for Alexis wasn’t even on the court. Instead, it was a team bonding moment when the boys went to go watch a college NCAA volleyball game together. “That experience really elevated our energy and brought us closer,” he said.
For Alexis, being a good athlete isn’t just about winning games. “A successful athlete should be able to lead others and help others better their performance,” he said. That mindset shows through in how he treats his teammates—with support, encouragement, and a strong team-first attitude.
When he’s not playing volleyball, Alexis enjoys spending time with his little sister and their pets. He also plays guitar to relax and escape stress. “Family time is important to me, no matter the occasion,” he said.
Growing up, Alexis was always active. His parents worked hard—his father constantly on the job and his mother managing the home. That work ethic had a big influence on him. “My mom inspires me,” he said. “She works hard day and night. Her relentless effort inspires me to never give up and push past my own limits.”
Alexis also looks up to volleyball player Moni Nikolov. “The energy he brings to the sport is exciting,” Alexis said. “His ability to lead and make others around him better is inspiring.”
Looking ahead, Alexis plans to attend a four-year university and major in Business Administration. While he says he’ll most likely continue playing volleyball, it won’t be at a competitive level. Still, the lessons he’s learned through sports—like leadership, commitment, and teamwork—will always be a part of him.
“My middle name, Eleazar, means ‘God has helped,’” Alexis said. “I hold this meaning close as I navigate life, trusting that God has supported me in the past and will continue to do so.”
With his strong values, humble heart, and passion for the game, Alexis Jacobo proves that being a great athlete goes far beyond the scoreboard.
