Our library is constantly being filled with new books. Books take us into a whole new world of possibilities. A book is based on a genre, which guides the story in a specific way. An author can focus on one genre and write to make themselves known for that genre, like Stephen King with horror. A story can also have multiple genres and plot holes to make it interesting for the readers.
Genres are diverse categories that help readers navigate the vast world of literature, making it easier to find stories that align with their interests. From fiction to nonfiction, genres offer a variety of themes and styles, allowing readers to explore different experiences and emotions. Common genres include mystery, fantasy, romance, etc., each with its unique characteristics and appeal. Non-fiction genres like biography, self-help, and memoir provide real-life insights, while poetry and drama allow for a different form of literary expression. The beauty of book genres lies in their ability to cater to all tastes, offering something for everyone, whether you’re seeking adventure, knowledge, or an emotional journey, such as all your perfects with sob-worthy endings.
Genre has evolved from the Shakespearean time when there were only 4 genres. The only genres Shakespeare was in at the time were tragedies, comedies, histories, and problem plays. Genre has evolved in many ways since then, involving multiple genres in any novel from thriller to comedy. Colleen Hoover is known for her many romance novels, but she also can be placed under romance tragedy for the multiple books she’s written.
In our library, you may notice a section devoted to manga, which can also follow many different genres. Manga is a Japanese graphic novel, and a Manwha is a Korean graphic novel. Unlike our comics, they are like comic books read from left to right. Most graphic novels are adapted into animes and K-dramas. There are so many different types of stories, formats, and genres worldwide.
The storybook world keeps enhancing and showing us there’s not just one plain way of life. Literature is always changing and evolving towards our liking. Critics give feedback so authors can know what to include next time or what to change. All around the world, different genres are welcomed and loved by many people.
