This year’s 2024 Volleyball season at South El Monte has been one of the best yet, with astonishing wins up to the quarter-final. They made it to round 4 but devastatingly lost in the semi-final. This shows their glory of achievements. Although the team did not win the CIF finals, they made it far into the championships. We are all very proud of these Lady Eagles. 

We had the opportunity to interview one of the many girls in varsity, Laura Hui. We asked her how it felt to make it to CIF. She said, “It was a unique experience. I don’t really know how to describe it. It was just fun but at the same time pressure.” She continued to inform us about volleyball’s importance in her life, by mentioning the journey of overcoming obstacles with her team who became her close friends. She says that her team enjoyed the challenge and was extremely grateful to make it to CIF.

We asked Zaira Garcia how she felt about this year’s volleyball season. She said,” This year I thought that the team had a lot of chemistry with each other and we were all supportive of each other. We were all encouraging and it was a great environment and how we made it very far with each other this season.” She kept on informing us about how this season and making it to CIF was kinda nerve breaking and how it was exciting but nerve-wracking. She also explains how volleyball has impacted her life both mentally and physically even during high school. Having to balance school work and volleyball at the same time.  

Finally, we interviewed,  Alina Ramirez, a JV student who had the opportunity to be with the varsity team at CIF. When asked how she felt about making it to CIF she said, “It was exhilarating, because it was so important for the seniors, as it meant so much to them. To be a part of it was amazing.” She also mentioned that she moved up to varsity in case any of the girls got injured. Although Ramirez didn’t have the chance to play she was still extremely grateful for the chance.

After getting a chance to interview these three players we can see how much effort they put into this volleyball season. And knowing that the girl’s volleyball team put in a lot of hard work and dedication to make CIF. They also fought very hard making it to the semi-finals of the CIF rounds. Making this the best volleyball season ever.
