The long tradition of excellence is alive and well at South El Monte High School. Our band is not as large as it has been in the past, but it is just as loud in performance. Recently, our Mighty Eagle band placed first in the Azusa Golden Days parade. Not to be outdone, our drill team and color guard placed third overall.
“I love how close and small we are. It is like a little family”. Val Torres is a three-year member of the squad and is one of its leaders. Zofia Mendoza, who has been in the program for two years, enjoys “the competitions and performing at football games”. According to both Torres and Mendoza, they are successful because they communicate and have a great “working dynamic”.
Captain Jennedy “JJ” Herrera says that the program is successful because “they are all close and really connected”. Kayla Amado adds “I like our team bonding and how we work hard and support each other.” Like The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, when these forces unite they form one powerful unit. Well done Eagles!
