The people are talking! It has taken quite some time for our school’s construction project to be complete. Here at South El Monte High School, there have been multiple renovations around campus. Almost 2 years ago, the school blocked off areas for construction to work on. While some of the remodeling has been completed, we are still waiting on the reopening of multiple projects like the little theater and the front office.
So, we interviewed some students around campus to find out their opinions on the progress and the remodeling that is already done.
We first interviewed Amber Varela, a sophomore here at South. She says, “The school has been here for a long time, only little things have changed. All of the construction was supposed to be finished by this summer, but all they are doing now is re-painting instead of finishing.” We can see from here that it’s clear construction has been kinda slow, finishing up some areas around the school. They are also putting off some projects to re-paint some areas that need to be painted again.
We then interviewed Alexa Argueta, another sophomore here at South. When we asked about her thoughts on all the construction projects that are done and those in progress, she said, “I think the remodeling looks really nice! It must be a lot of work but it is all coming together. It would’ve been cool to have the workers finish in the summer and then come back to a new and improved school, but I’m still excited for the results!” She seems super enthusiastic about making our school beautiful, but we can see some were expecting work to be done by now.
We also got a chance to interview Dayanira Arellano, a junior here at South. We asked her how she felt about the progress of the construction. She said,” The construction kinda sucks because we can’t go to specific areas. They have been working on the areas for 2-3 years. Nothing has changed, everything kinda looks the same in my view.” We can infer that construction blocks off areas, so now students can’t go to specific areas in the school. Some people are also saying everything looks the same from when they first started construction and then now.
Another person we interviewed was Tere Argueta, another sophomore at South. She said, “The construction is coming along and the construction workers are doing good, but I do wish that they were finished already. Hopefully from here, the process goes by quicker. Maybe they’re just finalizing the finishing touches.”
After hearing different students’ opinions, how do you feel about the construction? Do you think the construction work should be done by now? We hope that very soon we can admire the finished product here at South El Monte High School!
