Boys Soccer Takes Promising Step Toward Achieving GOALS
January 14, 2020
On December 2nd, the varsity boys soccer team hosted a home game against Mark Keppel High School. During the first half, the boys lead 1-0 with a goal by senior Flavio Martinez. “Before the game I like to put my headphones on and listen to my favorite song to get pumped up. I felt confident on the field and we all played really well,” Flavio says about his pre-game ritual and his team. This year the boys are determined to win league and hopefully a championship title.
The varsity soccer boys are lead by Dr. Torres who is also an AP Spanish Language/AP European History teacher. For his second season, he plans to take the Eagles to a victory and qualify for CIF. “Our coach does his best to make sure we are ready to go. We have long practices, conditioning, and lectures after games to review how we can improve,” Flavio shares.
Towards the second half Alexander Moreno a freshman, scored his first goal of the pre-season. “As a freshman I was nervous because I felt like I had to meet the coach’s expectations. But as soon as I stepped on the field, I knew I was home, and I had this,” Alexander says as one of the few freshmen amongst juniors and seniors. The team’s chemistry has progressed and it shows on the field as they cheer each other on.
The last two goals were scored by Alexander Moreno and Kevin Maravillas. The Eagles dominated Mark Keppel with a score of 4-2. “The one thing that is different this year is that there are more younger and newer players on the team, which is an advantage for the program as they progress throughout the years,” Kevin shares. The Eagles play Arroyo on January 17th at home. This will be their sixth game of the season, the Eagles are currently 2-2-1.
